Project Homeless Connect Kansas City Offers Critical Services as Homelessness Rises
Annual event deepens partnership with reStart Inc. as it marks its tenth year
KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 25, 2024
More than 2,200 people in Kansas City Missouri experience homelessness each night according to the 2024 Point-in-Time Count conducted by the Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness. Moreover, the Kansas City Public School report 1,200 youth within the district are without homes.
Project Homeless Connect Kansas City (PHCKC) aims to reduce the rising number of unhoused community members at its annual, free event on Tuesday, May 21st from 9 am- 3:30 pm at the Gregg/Klice Community Center.
At the event, guests gain access to services including housing assistance, medical and dental services, vision screenings, identification procurement, haircuts, food and nutrition benefits, employment assistance, legal aid, animal services, and more.
“The number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Kansas City, Missouri has risen by more than 30% for the second year in a row,” says Emma Brook, co-founder of PHCKC. “This makes our annual Project Homeless Connect Kansas City event more critical than ever in connecting individuals and families in our community to life-changing services.”
This year, the PHCKC volunteer board has welcomed leaders from reStart Inc. Together, the organizations will extend the breadth and depth of services offered at the event, and involve more members of the community, and help more people in need.
“As a volunteer-led organization, we are proud of the access to vital care and services we have provided to thousands of Kansas Citians experiencing homelessness over the past 10 years. reStart has been an instrumental partner in helping make Project Homeless Connect Kansas City possible from day one,” said Sarah Fustine, co-founder of PHCKC.
reStart CEO Stephanie Boyer agrees, “During the course of the day at Project Homeless Connect Kansas City, participants receive care and attention they need and deserve as human beings. In the process, we build trust and bring them one step closer to safe and stable housing. One young woman we met here last year not only has her own apartment, but is also enrolled and finishing her college degree. She is just one example of how life-changing this single day event can be for those who attend.”
Since 2014, PHKC has helped more than 2,700 community members experiencing homelessness with the help of hundreds of volunteers, service providers and agencies, and gracious volunteers.
